Mijares retains WBC super flyweight title vs Jorge Arce

Mexican Cristian Mijares defended his World Boxing Council super flyweight title in a bloody match with countryman Jorge Arce at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday night (Sunday morning in Manila). The match proved to be an exciting undercard to the Manny Pacquiao-Jorge Solis match at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The Mexicans kept the capacity crowd excited as they nimbly danced around the ring trading quick punches. Mijares, who's defending his WBC super flyweight title for the second time, seemed tireless, as even halfway through the 12-round bout he gave tit-for-tat with the slightly larger-built Arce. Arce never let up on his pacing, despite blood oozing freely from a cut across the bridge of his nose, due to an accidental headbutt by Mijares in the eighth round. Arce had to endure the cut for the last three rounds. Before they resumed punching in the last round, the two fighters gave each other a quick friendly hug. The front of Mijares's white shorts turned pinkish by the end of the bout. - GMANews.TV
